Select Enteral Formula Calcs to display calculate nutritional information from dose, for most popular eneral formulas.
Select Add/edit enteral formulas to add new formulas, change nutritional values for a formula, or delete formulas from your P21.

Enteral formula calculations |
|
|
Select Enteral Formula to compute nutritional deliveries from a selected enteral (tube feeding) formula.
|

|
|
1. Select an enteral formula by name. You may scroll the list of formulas (1) by tapping the down and up arrows. Highlight the selected formula, then strike OK. Your P-21 will contain approximately 60 formulas. You may add or change formulas as desired.
|

|
|
2. After selection of the enteral formula (example: NUTREN), the P-21 will display all nutritional information based on a dosage of 50 ml/hr or 1200 ml/day. To change dose, tap Ml/hr (3) or Ml/da (4) and enter the desired dose rate.
|

Sorting the formula list by nutrient deliveries |

You may sort the enteral formulas by a selected nutrient
|
|
The list of formulas is first displayed in alphabetical order. Sometimes you may wish to sort the formulas on their nutritional values, to assist your selection of a formula. Strike Sort Order.
|

|
|
A menu of nutritional parameters will be displayed. Select the value upon which the sort will be performed. This will sort all formulas on this parameter, largest first. When you have selected the paramter to sort on, strike GO. NOTE: The sort takes about 10 seconds.
|

This example shows a sort Kcal/ml. The sorted list will show the formulas with the highest values of Kcal/ml first. Select the formula of your choice, then strike OK .

Entering dose in ml/hr or ml/day |
|
|
The dose of the enteral formula can be entered in ml/hr plus hrs/day, or ml/day.
|
|
1. Tap Ml/hr OR Ml/day. You may also enter Hrs/day if your eneral formula is not given for 24 hours.
|

|
|
2. Tap the keys to enter the correct dose in Ml/hr or Ml/day.
|

|
|
3. All nutritional values for NUTREN 1.0 are displayed for a dose rate of 1500 Ml/day. Abbreviations: d - day RDA% - percent RDA requirements Pro — protein CHO - carbohydrate H20 - water in enteral solution Fib - fiber K+ potassium Ca - calcium VitC - vitamin C Na - sodium Zn - zinc Fe - iron Tot vol -- total volume, including flushes Free w -- free water, including flushes. Flush -- total flush volume

Dose recalculations from desired nutrient deliveries |
|
|
You may recalculate dose by specifying a desired delivery of any nutrient.
|
|
In this example, the desired delivery of fat is 100 g/d. (Any nutrient may be used.) Strike Fat g/d
|

|
|
Enter 100 on the keypad. Strike OK.
|

|
|
The dose rate is automatically recalculated to delivery 100 g/d of Fat. Nutritional values for NUTREN 2.0 at a new dose rate of 39.3 ml/hr or 943.4 ml per day are displayed. You may recalculate dose based on any other nutrient or value by striking appropriate button. To use a different formula, strike Formula.

Volumes, water, free water, and flushes |
|
|
You may specify flushes with medication and per shift, and calculate free ater and total volume for any situation
|
|
Volumes and free water. The following values are used in calculating volumes and free water. Ml/hr -- Ml per hour. Tapping this allows you to enter this value directly.
Ml/da -- Ml per day. This can be entered directly, or is calculated as Ml/hr * hrs/day. Hrs/day -- The hours per day the formula is administered. Tap to reset Flush -- The total flush volume used per day. Activates the flush volume frame. Tot vol -- Total volume. (Ml/day + flush volume). Tapping this activates the flush volume frame and allows you to specify flush volume. H20 -- The amount of water delivered by the enteral formula Free w -- Free water . H20 + flush volume. Tapping this activates the flush volume frame.

Flush volume frame. This frame is called by tapping tot vol or free w. You may specify the number of medications per day, the flush before, during, and after each medication, and the shift flushes per 8-hour shift. The total flush in ml per day is calculated. You may bypass the above calculation by tapping Total flush and entering the total flush directly.

You may customize your enteral formulas by adding new formulas, removing old formulas, or changing the nutritional values for any formulas listed
|

At the enteral formula menu, strike Manage Enteral Database
|

To change any nutritional value for a listed formula
1. Select an enteral formula from the menu.
2. Strike Edit
|

|
|
3. Strike OK.
|

|
|
4. Obtain desired nutritional values. These values may be obtained from manufacturer’s literature. Ordinarlily, there should be no reason to change nutritional values.
NOTE: You cannot change the formula name. If you wish to change the name, you must delete the old forumla and add a new one.
To edit a value 1. Sweep the value with the stylus, highlighting it. Example, change RDA% of ENSURE from 2000 to

2. Activate the numeric keyboard by tapping in the lower right corner of the writing area.
|

|
3. Strike the backspace key in the numeric keyboard. This erases the old value. 4. Strike the digits for the new value 5. Strike DONE in the numeric keyboard.
|

Adding New Enteral Formulas |
|
|
Inspect the enteral formula list to make sure the formula you are adding is not already present.
|

|
|
1. Strike Add.
2. Enter the name of the new enteral formula on the line under “Formula Name.” Strike OK.
|

|
To enter the name of the enteral formula, 1. Strike the line with the stylus to get a cursor. 2. Tap the lower left hand corner of the writing area to activate the alphabetic keyboard. 3. Tap out the letters of the name. 4. Strike Done on the alphabetic keyboard. 5. The name of the new enteral formula will appear on the proper line.

3. Enter the proper nutritional values for the added formula. These can be found in the literature supplied by the manufacturer. Strike Save or Quit. Note: You must use the numeric keyboard to enter these values.

4. The new formula is now added, but it will not be visible until you exit the program. Strike Menu.
|

|
|
5. Reenter the database manager if desired to view the added formula.
|

|
|
6. The new formula is displayed. Example is PERATIVE.
|

|
Deleting an Enteral Formula |
|
|
1. Select an enteral formula from the menu.
2. Strike Delete
|

|
|
3. Strike Delete OK.
|

|
|
4. Confirm by striking Delete.
|

|
|
5. The formula is deleted. However, you must exit the program with Menu before it disappears from the menu
|
